PRESS RELEASE - "PERU 2008 IN ST. LOUIS"

ST LOUIS, MO, OCT 02, 2008: As part of the celebration of the NATIONAL HERITAGE HISPANIC MONTH. ATLA has organized a week of free public festivities and art exhibits that took place from September 24 to September 30.
ATLA has been promoting Latin American Art and Culture for the past 11 years through academic presentations in Universities, schools and community centers.
The two main events were:
1. September 26th "PERU 2008 in St Louis" at Webster University
750 students from different high and middle schools were presented the work of Artist: Walter Iglesias, Polo Ramirez, Willy Fernandez were displayed along with the Presentation of the music of Inti Raymi. Special Guest Charlie Dooley (County Executive) and a video about Peru.
" Conference by Walter Iglesias at Webster University on Martin Chambi and his work role in preserving Andean Cosmovision.

2. September 30th "Proclamation of PERU 2008 in St Louis" at University of St Louis - Touhill Performance Art Center
By Mr. Charlie Dooley (County Executive), with the special participation of his Excellency Peruvian Ambassador Jose Tenorio Benavides (Consul General of Peru), University of Missouri St Louis Chancellor Thomas F George, and ATLA Executive Director Susana Hamilton.

850 students from Bunche International Studies Middle School, Kirkwood School District R-7,Pattonvile School district, Custom Language Schooling inc, St Charles High, City Academy School, gateway academy Were presented the work of above and below mentioned Artist and a video about PERU, being introduced in this way to the Peruvian culture.

The works of the following Peruvian Artist were included in the activities.
" Marleny Salinas and Soledad Paredes (Internationally Renowned Chefs specialist in Peruvian Cuisine, which although not is not very known it is regarded as the most sophisticated cuisine in the world)
" Walter Iglesias Renowned Peruvian photographer and professor who presented his work on Peruvian Dances and Costumes. Walter has been a professor in the highest ranked art and advertising colleges in Peru as well as being one of the leading adverting and editorial photographers in Peru.
Walter is currently working in the US with Starlight Imaging www.starlightimaging.net" Polo Ramirez Master Ceramist that uses ancient Peruvian techniques to produce Art Pieces of outstanding beauty. work will be exhibited at Visio Gallery until October 16" Willy Fernadez Peruvian painter whose work has deserved public recognition for his particular view of the Peruvian Women, displaying in his work their character and voluptuosity.
" Inti Raymi Peruvian Musical Group that with their music transport the public to the South American Andean region. Their music bear all the richness and mysticism of the Andean world that encompasses thousands of years of existence.
" Mr. Ramirez y Fernandez work will exhibited at Visio gallery until October 16.
